Proof of residence
A proof of residence is a document that verifies your full name and residential street address, in compliance with the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA). Capitec Bank will accept any of the following original documents or certified copies of the original documents:
- A municipal rates and taxes account (less than 3 months old). Bills from a water or electricity meter reading company will be accepted
- A bank statement from any institution other than Capitec Bank (less than 3 months old) – Only posted statements will be accepted
- A bond statement (less than 6 months old)
- A telephone account from a fixed-line service provider (less than 3 months old) – Only posted statements will be accepted
- A tax return or any other official document issued by SARS on their letterhead (less than 12 months old)
- An IRP5 certificate from your employer (less than 12 months old)
- A television licence (less than 12 months old)
- A motor vehicle licence document (less than 12 months old)
- An insurance policy document (less than 12 months old)
- A retail or store credit account (less than 3 months old) – Only posted statements will be accepted
- A cellular phone account from your service provider (less than 3 months old) – Only posted statements will be accepted
Self-employed and unemployed applicants
The following documents will not be accepted as proof of residence from self-employed or unemployed applicants:
- Affidavit
- Declaration form
- Original or certified copies of a lease agreement
- Original or certified copies of correspondence from a body corporate or share block association
- Employer confirmation letter
- Letter from a tribal chief or traditional authority.
