On 30 April 2021, we'll switch off our old app, so download our new app today for a better banking experience.

Here's what you can enjoy on our new app:

  • Faster, more modern banking
  • Simpler navigation
  • Fingerprint or facial recognition sign-in (if your phone supports it)
  • Shortcuts for one-tap access to regular payments and other features
  • Simple management of your card's tap to pay functionality - turn it on or off as you need it
  • Improved access to credit and money management tools
  • Scan to Pay using MasterPass, SnapScan and Zapper QR codes
  • Receive money in and money out transactional notifications as in-app messages instead of SMS’s
  • Register to use the app without visiting a branch
  • Choose a new password for your App if you’ve forgotten your old one
  • Open a Capitec account simply by taking a few selfies and scanning your ID

Here you are a few tips and answers to questions about how this change will impact you:

What does this switch-off on 30 April 2021 mean for me?

  • From this future date, you will no longer be able to transact or view your balances on the old app.
  • You will see a notice advising that the app is no longer supported
  • You will only be able to use our old app to authenticate yourself when signing in to Internet banking and approving Internet banking transactions.
  • We’ll share more details with you soon, but encourage you to move across to our new banking app immediately
  • All your beneficiaries and transaction history will be available in the new app.

What do I do next?

  • We recommend that you switch over to the Capitec Bank app as soon as possible.
  • You won’t lose any of the key functionality of the old app on the new app.
  • The new app simplifies your banking experience even further but gives you more functionality

How do I move to the new app?

  • You must have a device that runs Android 5 or higher/ iOS 10 or higher or Huawei EMUI 10 and Huawei Mobile Services
  • You must have a verified email address to allow you to switch easily to the new app
  • Download the new app for Android or iOS or thee Huawei AppGallery

How do I know if my device is supported

  • Check your OS version under your phone’s Settings
    • Only devices that support Android version 5 and higher, or Apple iOS 10 and higher or Huawei EMUI 10 with Huawei Mobile Services are supported
    • On Android
      • This will usually be under in Settings > “About Phone”
      • If you are on an appropriate version you can then download the app
    • On iOS
      • This is Settings > General > “About”
      • If you are on an appropriate version you can then download the app
    • Only the following Huawei devices are supported:
      • Huawei Y7P
      • Huawei P40
      • Huawei P40 lite
      • Huawei P40 Pro
      • Huawei Mate XS Foldable
      • Nova
      • Huawei Y5p
      • Huawei Y6p
      • Huawei P40 lite 5G
      • Huawei P40 Pro Plus
      • Huawei P Smart S
      • Huawei P Smart

Note: If your Huawei device is not on this list please download from the Android store

What if my device is not compatible with the new app

  • If you device runs Android version 4 or less or iOS 9 or less, you will not be able to upgrade to the new app
  • Update your phone’s operating system to either Android version 5 or higher, or Apple iOS 10 or higher.
    • You may have to check with your phone manufacturer or cellular network provider whether your phone’s operating system can be updated
  • You can continue to use *120*3279# for most of you mobile banking needs but we recommend that you upgrade to a phone with a supported operating system

What can I do if I can’t upgrade my software or get a new phone yet?

  • You may do the following to continue to bank remotely:
    • Use internet banking. You can continue using the old banking app to sign in on internet banking. All transaction capability will however be switched off on the old app.
    • Visit your nearest branch to register for USSD mobile banking (*120*3279#), if not already registered” 
    • You may also visit your nearest branch to get a token on keyring for Internet banking if you prefer
