Going for a day or even a week without spending cash could seem a little daunting at first. However, once you see how easy it is to pay people or accounts on our app, or use your Capitec card to pay when you shop, you’ll never go back to long ATM queues again!

How will I pay without cash?

If you’ve got a smartphone, download the Capitec banking app for free from your phone’s app store. You can use the app to pay people and accounts for just R1, make immediate payments for R8 and even buy airtime, data, and electricity. See how to download the app and make payments.

You can use your Capitec card to pay in-store or online for free, or even download the Capitec Masterpass™ app and pay using just your phone wherever you see a Masterpass, SnapScan or Zapper QR code.

What if I can’t download the app?

If you have a smartphone, you should be able to download our app from Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS). If you can’t download our app you can still make payments using *120*3279# (USSD) to Capitec clients with a verified cellphone number for only R1. You can also purchase airtime and electricity, even if you don’t have airtime on your phone. If you need to buy something in-store or online, use your Capitec card.

What if I need to pay for something in cash?

We realise that cash is still a necessity for many South Africans. That’s why it now costs only R6 per R1 000 to draw cash at a Capitec ATM and R8 to draw cash at any other bank’s ATM. Better yet, you can also save on fees by drawing cash at a PnP/Shoprite/Checkers/Boxer tillpoint for just R1.

I want to use the app but my phone’s battery died.

Now what? Always have your Capitec card as a backup payment option if you can’t use your phone to access our app or Capitec MasterpassTM. Remember, it’s free to make a purchase with your card.

I need to pay someone immediately

Capitec is pioneering the way to make immediate payments accessible and affordable for everyday use. It will cost you just R7.50 to make an immediate payment, and the money will be available in their account immediately. This is the lowest immediate payment fee in South Africa, which helps Capitec clients bank better for less while also encouraging the rest of the industry to follow.

How do keep an eye on how much I spend?

If you’re used to drawing a set amount of cash to spend, you might be wondering how to keep track of your money. With the click of a button, you can see all your transactions on the app or on Internet banking, which means you know exactly where your money is going. You can also activate transaction notifications on our app, so you’ll get an SMS every time money goes off your account.
