dream holiday checklist: safety and money tips

Your bags are packed and your travel arrangements are finalised. But before you leave, read this holiday checklist for a few important things you should do.

    Dream holiday checklist

In the previous article of this 3-part series, we helped you decide what kind of holiday you want to go on and how to plan for it. Now let’s look at safety and money tips to help ensure your trip is memorable!

    Make copies of important documents

Take photocopies of your passport and other important documents with (e.g. accommodation and travel bookings) and keep these separate from your passport. This can help if you lose your passport and you need to get a temporary travel document.

Holiday checklist tip 1: Ask the reception of where you’re staying to keep your passport and other valuables in a safe during your stay. Don’t leave your documents or valuables lying around in your room.

Let us know that you’re travelling

For your safety, we pay special attention to suspicious transactions or those that appear out of the ordinary. So it’s important to contact our 24hr Client Care Centre on 0860 10 20 43 (+27 21 941 1377 if you’re not in South Africa) to let us know the dates and where you’ll be travelling to (remember to also mention any layovers). This way, we won’t flag your transactions as suspicious and contact you unnecessarily when you make purchases overseas.

Holiday checklist tip 2: When paying by card, never lose sight of your card.

Holiday checklist tip 3: Watch out for suspicious devices at ATMs and don’t let anyone help you with a transaction, no matter how friendly or helpful they seem. If you have problems understanding an ATM, rather go inside a bank to ask for assistance.

    Zero currency conversion fees

You pay zero currency conversion fees when using your Capitec card to pay for card machine purchases worldwide wherever you see the Mastercard® logo. Our credit card offers 55 days interest-free, so you’ll pay zero interest if you settle the outstanding balance before the interest-free period ends.

Holiday checklist tip 4: If you’re under the age of 75 and you pay for the full cost of your flight ticket with your Capitec credit card, you’ll automatically receive free basic travel insurance. You can also contact us to help you arrange comprehensive top-up cover.

    Action your big goals

Setting realistic annual goals is a great way to help build the life and career you want. The more practical and informed your approach, the more likely you are to achieve your dreams. We’d like to help you reach at least one goal this year, so we’ve created a 3-part series of handy checklists for 4 major financial goals. Whether you want to save for your education, a dream holiday or buy a car or buy a new home, we’ve got you covered.
