    bank better, live better

    keep your money safe online

Stay safe online with these Internet banking and shopping tips.

We’ve partnered with the South African Banking Risk Information Centre (Sabric) to bring you these safety tips.

    Protect your PIN

If you need to enter your PIN to complete an online transaction:

    • Memorise your PIN and password. Don’t share it with anyone. We will never ever ask you for your PIN
    • If you think that someone has obtained your PIN and/or password fraudulently, change it immediately
    • Choose an unusual PIN and password that are hard to guess
    • Change your passwords often

Find more PIN security tips here.

Tip: Register for SMS notifications to alert you of money going in and out of your account.

    When doing Internet banking

    • Make sure you’re on your bank’s secure website. The link should always start with https NOT http
    • Rather type the bank’s website address into your address bar instead of clicking on a link in an email
    • Don’t do your Internet banking from a public computer such as those at an Internet café
    • Sign out from Internet banking as soon as you’re done

Find more Internet banking tips here.

Tip: Use our banking app to do everything you do on Internet banking and more. You can bank anywhere 24/7 and you only need one device for it.

    Secure your PC

    • Ensure no one has unauthorised access to your PC, cellphone app or Internet banking token
    • Don’t click on suspicious links or open email communication from unfamiliar email addresses
    • Use licensed software on your computer
    • Don’t download music, video and other entertainment content from peer-to-peer and other unofficial websites
    • Make sure you have antivirus software installed and that it’s updated regularly
    • Never share your personal information on your social media profiles or on a company’s Facebook page in response to a query
    • Be cautious when using storage devices such as USB drives that are not your own. Scan them for viruses before you do
