Banking on better with MoneyUp
MoneyUp is how we honour the trust people place in us – by empowering them with financial skills to shape their future.
MoneyUp is how we honour the trust people place in us – by empowering them with financial skills to shape their future.
At the heart of our work is a deep understanding that financial education is about more than just money.
As Sarah Bassett, Programme Lead: Financial Education, explains: “When someone entrusts you with their money, they are entrusting you with their hopes, dreams and plans for their family and future.”
MoneyUp was created with this in mind – as a learning platform designed to support real South Africans in their daily lives.
Sarah adds: “Delivering financial education and empowering our clients with the information, knowledge and skills that they need to make the most of their money is really part of how we honour the trust that they place in us.”
MoneyUp meets you where you are – offering quick lessons when you have a moment and deeper learning when you’re ready to grow your skills. From everyday money management to business finance, every experience is designed to fit into your day, not disrupt it.
As Kayshree Naidoo, Behavioural Analyst, explains: “What we want to be able to do is show people that we can simplify the content, make it relatable, help them understand it, practice it in their daily lives and make it a habit.”
The programme combines behavioural science and human insight to drive real, lasting change.
“It’s very important that we use behavioural science principles because we understand that knowledge alone does not drive behavioural change. We also believe that the MoneyUp solution should be guided by human behaviour and work with human nature rather than against it,” adds Kayshree.
Across MoneyUp Academy and MoneyUp Chat, people can choose how they want to learn – through conversational stories or structured step-by-step guides.
As Lucie Osman, Content Writer, explains: “Whether it’s a chat-based story on MoneyUp Chat or a simple step-by-step guide on MoneyUp Academy, both of our solutions are designed to be simple, engaging and fun without losing the quality of learning.”
And the numbers tell the story: “On MoneyUp Academy we have 240 000 users who have completed at least one or more courses, and on MoneyUp Chat we have 520 000 users who have completed at least one or more learning experiences,” shares Samantha Zacharias, Learning Platform Specialist.
Across both platforms, the results are clear – people are eager to learn and grow.
Sarah highlights why this matters: “There’s a real hunger for this knowledge and people want to build the skills that can help them grow and thrive.”
Every course is designed to make managing money simpler.
“On MoneyUp Academy, people are looking for simple hacks to make life easier for themselves – simple saving strategies and tips to managing money,” says Lucie.
From saving smarter to understanding credit and running a business, MoneyUp gives South Africans the tools to make confident choices.
Here’s what some users had to say:
When people understand money better, the impact extends beyond the individual – it reaches families, workplaces and entire communities.
When we bank on better, we build a stronger future for all of us.
