Lost or stolen card

Stolen card or suspected fraud? Stop your card immediately. Want your payments and subscriptions to continue? Replace it instead.

Stopping a card is permanent. All transactions and subscriptions linked to that card will stop.

On our app
  1. Sign in on our app
  2. Tap Cards on the bottom menu, and select a card
  3. Tap Stop card
  4. Choose a reason for stopping your card (Card lost, Card stolen or Card damaged)
  5. Tap Stop

On WhatsApp
  1. Add 067 418 9565as a contact
  2. Refresh your contact list on WhatsApp
  3. Say Hello to us
  4. Tap the Main Menu button and select the Self-Service option
  5. Tap the Options button and select the Stop Card option
  6. Tao Card List, choose the card you want to stop and follow the prompts

Alternatively, click below to automatically open WhatsApp and add Capitec as a contact. 

 
On USSD
  • Dial *120*3279#
  • Choose option 7 Manage Cards
  • Select a card
  • Choose option 1 Stop Card
  • Choose a reason for stopping the card
  • Enter your mobile banking PIN to confirm
 
Speak to an agent

If you’d like to speak to a Client Care agent to report and stop your lost or stolen Personal Banking Card, call us on 0860 10 20 43 or +27 21 941 1377 (if outside SA).

Stopping a card is permanent. All transactions and subscriptions linked to that card will stop.

On online banking
  1. Enter your details to sign in
  2. Choose Cards
  3. Click Stop card
  4. Choose a reason for the stop

Stop vs freeze card

Misplaced your card? You may not need to stop it.

Freeze your card if you've temporarily misplaced it and expect to find it again soon. The Freeze Carde feature is designed to help protect your account while you look for your card. It's not intended to stop subscriptions or payments.

If you think your card is temporarily misplaced, you can freeze your card instantly on our app. Unfreeze it later if you find it – no replacement needed.

If you want a new card without interrupting payments and subscriptions, you can replace your card.

If your card has been stolen or you suspect fraud, you need to stop it immediately.
