Switch and find a better way to bank

Switching to us has never been more easy, fast and secure – plus you don’t have to visit a branch to do it. Simply download our app, take a selfie, enter your SA ID number and have your card delivered.

Simply download our app, take a few selfies, enter your SA ID number and have your card delivered. 

By taking a selfie, the app uses facial recognition technology to scan your unique facial features and create a biometric signature. This is used to instantly verify your identity against the Department of Home Affairs database, to authenticate that it’s you opening the account.

This means you won’t have to visit a branch to open your account or activate the banking app.

Before you start, make sure you have:

  • A smartphone
  • Your SA ID number
  • A valid email address and SA cellphone number

Easy steps to open an account with a selfie

Step 1: Download the Capitec app from your Android, Huawei, or iOS app store

Step 2: Enter your SA ID number

Step 3: Take a couple of selfies

Step 4: Enter your personal details

That’s it!

Once you’ve opened your account you can start banking immediately on the app and 
shop online with your virtual card while you wait for your physical card to be delivered.

Alternatively, you can collect your card at your nearest branch whenever it’s convenient.

As an existing client we’re using the same smart technology to help you bank better. If you’ve forgotten your Remote App PIN or need to activate the app on a new smartphone, you can now do it safely and securely without having to visit a branch.

If you haven’t updated to the new Capitec Bank app yet:

Step 1: Open the old app and verify your email address (this is vital for the remote onboarding process to work)

Step 2: Search for Capitec Bank in your Android, Huawei or iOS app store

Step 3: Install and open the new app

Step 4: Tap I have a savings account

Step 5: Enter your savings account number

Step 6: Follow the on-screen instructions

Step 7: Delete the old app

Once you have installed the new app, you can use it to reset your forgotten Remote app PIN without visiting a branch.

To reset your Remote app PIN:

Step 1: Ensure you have the latest version of the Capitec Bank app for Android, or iOS installed

Step 2: Open the app and tap I’ve forgotten my PIN

Step 3: Tap Continue

Step 4: If requested on your phone, tap Allow to give the app access to your phone’s camera

Step 5: Position your face inside the frame and follow the instructions to take a selfie

Step 6: Create a new 5 or 6-digit Remote PIN

Ready to switch your salary and debit orders?

We’ll help you switch so you can enjoy all the advantages of simplified banking – without visiting a branch.

You need a letter with the details of your Capitec account to move your salary. This proof of account needs to be submitted to your employer or HR department so your salary can be paid into your Capitec account.

You can get a proof of account letter on our banking app:

  • Tap Savings account on the home screen
  • Tap the top-right menu
  • Choose Send account details
  • Choose the Email option and enter an email address

Switch to a simpler way to bank and we'll help you move your debit orders to your Capitec account.

  • Fill in your details on the move debit orders form 
  • Upload a statement from your other bank account, e.g. Absa or FNB, that shows your debit orders (not older than 3 months)
  • A Client Care agent will contact you at your preferred time to confirm that you have uploaded the correct documents and verify the debit orders to be switched

    Alternatively, to switch your salary and debit orders you can:

  • Call our 24hr Client Care Centre on 0860 10 20 43
  • Visit your nearest branch with your latest bank statement

Please note: Moving your debit orders will take a few days to complete, so please ensure that you have enough funds in your old account for any debit orders that couldn’t be moved in time.
