Social Impact

We are dedicated to improving the lives of South Africans through our social impact initiatives. With our belief that better never rests, we combine volunteer programs, partnerships, technology, and financial education to uplift communities.

social impact south africa

We work to bridge the gap between the challenges South Africans face every day and the financially secure future they work hard for.

By combining skills-based volunteer programmes, partnerships, and a focus on financial education enabled by technology, we create opportunities for long-term community development and well-being.

When we step up, show up, team up, money up, and uphold our commitment to add value beyond banking, we are reminded that we do it for one reason: to Uplift. For this reason, the name Capitec Uplift combines our social impact efforts.

Capitec Uplift

Our mission to build better communities is built on three key pillars:

•    Community Investment
•    Financial Education, and
•    The Capitec Foundation

Each area supports several sustainable development goals, and alongside our focus on quality education, we invest in reducing poverty, good health and well-being and gender equality. We aim to make financial education accessible to everyone and develop stronger classrooms, schools, and communities. We use our unique resources and understanding to improve the well-being of young people, upskill educators, support adults in their financial journeys, and unlock economic opportunities.

Community investment

Volunteer programme

The heart of our community investment is our volunteers who team up with public schools and non-profit organisations to improve education facilities and transfer essential skills and benefits. Each of our employees gets 3 leave days a year to use their knowledge and skills to make an impact across many volunteering projects.

Partnerships

Partnerships are vital to our success because they bring expert skills and capabilities to make a great impact. By collaborating with impact-led non-profit organisations, we reach South Africans from early childhood development to leadership and in their homes.

The Capitec Foundation

Established as a non-profit in 2014, The Capitec Foundation advocates for quality education through technology and strategic partnerships. We focus on closing knowledge gaps, addressing learners' health and wellness, training teachers and leadership, including principles and management teams, and working to overcome their challenges.

59% of Grade 9 maths learners haven’t learned basic mathematical knowledge. That is why our whole school model improves mathematics in 25 public high schools. CF partners with the Department of Education, universities and other organisations that share the same vision to help improve problem-solving skills and pure mathematics education and contribute to the development of school principals and communities across 7 provinces in South Africa.
