Uplift inspiring change in the Eastern Cape

We are making a meaningful difference in every community we touch through our employee volunteer programme.

Building foundations for growth

Our Uplift programme goes beyond banking. It nurtures young minds and builds brighter futures.

Our Social Impact team together with one of our Retail Operations teams in the Eastern Cape implemented 4 key initiatives in Maclear, Ugie, Umtata and East London:

  • Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme
  • Budget Champs
  • Life Skills
  • Financial Wellness

These projects provide young people with foundations to thrive and inspire financial confidence for generations to come.

ECD programme

Led by our Regional Managers, the ECD programme partners with principals like Gamuchirai Mugota of Divine Tots Daycare, who opened her daycare to give children a safe, conducive space to learn, play and develop.

During our first site visit, volunteers saw first-hand how much the centre means to the community and how small efforts can create big change.

Budget Champs

At ET Thabane Primary School, Grade 7 learners played Budget Champs, a fun card game that teaches budgeting skills.

The game inspired learners and gave them a better understanding of essential financial concepts. Deputy Principal Sandra Cloete shared that even children who struggle to read and write were able to follow and enjoy the game.

Life Skills

At Maclear High School, Grade 11 learners took part in a Life Skills session, an interactive workshop focused on personal development.

These sessions emphasise the importance of equipping young adults with practical skills to navigate life’s challenges, make confident choices and prepare for the future. Learner Ukhonaye Gadu shared that the session was very valuable, teaching them how to set goals and think ahead.

Financial Wellness

Teachers also gained support through Financial Wellness sessions. These sessions help them strengthen their own financial stability, so they can guide the next generation with confidence.

Extending our reach

From the Eastern Cape and beyond, we are living our purpose through volunteer work that touches lives in lasting ways. Our commitment doesn’t stop at our jobs – it extends into the heart of our communities. By uplifting others, we create hope and a better tomorrow.

Atang Moleleki, our branch manager in Tsolo shared how meaningful it is to see the impact first-hand, “It takes a village to raise a child, and what better way to see that in action than by being part of initiatives that nurture young minds.”

We are extending these initiatives across all 9 provinces in the country, building a national footprint of impact through the leadership of Regional Managers and the dedication of our volunteers.
