Look before you click

Scammers want to trick you into clicking on links so they can steal your information or install a virus on your phone.

Scammers may send fake emails and SMSs pretending to be from your bank or a trusted service provider like a courier company. They may ask you to update your personal information or pay a delivery fee, using urgent threats like 'your account will be blocked' or 'your parcel won't be delivered'.

Some warning signs to watch out for

  • These messages often create a sense of urgency, saying things like, 'Sign in to your account to prevent suspension'
  • They say you’re a fraud victim and need to sign in to your account to report it, threatening to suspend your account unless you do
  • They ask you to click on links, open attachments and share personal or banking information
  • They claim your account is blocked or you need to install new software

Tips to slam the scams

  • Don't click on links in messages asking for your personal or banking information
  • Don’t send money, transfer money to a 'safe account' or approve transactions to prevent fraud or reverse unauthorised debit orders
  • If you’re unsure about a message, contact the company directly using their official numbers
