What you need to get a SIM

  • You must have or open a Capitec account
  • A once-off R10 SIM card fee will be deducted from your main account
  • Proof of residence not older than 3 months (You can also show a valid proof of residence emailed to your device – no need to print it.)

Keep or change your number

Switch your number when you collect your SIM in-branch or later by dialling 135 for free from your Connect SIM.

Important to know:

  • You’ll need the number you want to keep if you’re doing it in branch
  • If you are on a contract, switching can take up to 48 hours after you convert to prepaid
  • Your current network will send you a message to approve the switch
  • Only remove your old SIM once the switch is approved

Important to remember:

If you don’t use your number for 6 months, the SIM will be deactivated and the number may be reassigned – as per the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).
