Don’t be fooled by bank impersonators

Scammers pretend to be your bank to scare you into making a payment or giving them your card details. Don’t fall for it.

Scammers scare you into thinking there has been fraud on your account by sending a fake SMS that notifies you of unauthorised activity. Then someone calls claiming to be from your bank’s fraud department.

They might sound professional and even warn you that the bank will never ask for your PIN. But then they ask you to share your card details, make an urgent payment or reverse a transaction to fix the problem. Once you follow their instructions, your money is gone.

Tips to slam bank impersonator scams

  • Always check if it’s really your bank calling
  • Remember, your bank will never ask you to do the following to stop or reverse fraud:
    • Make a payment or approve a transaction
    • Share confidential information like your card number, expiry and CVV/CVC number
    • Add a beneficiary
  • Don’t believe anyone who says the call verification feature is not working
Verify calls on our app

If the banner is green, it means you are on a call with us. If the banner is red, it means we cannot verify who’s on the call. Hang up and contact us using the call feature on our app.

Don't rely on caller ID apps to verify calls – scammers use fake caller IDs. Always verify calls on your banking app.

Stay safe, stay alert

Bank impersonator scams work because they sound real and make you panic. But if you take a moment to pause, verify the call or hang up and call your bank directly, you can stop scammers in their tracks.
