Watch out for SAPS impersonator scams

Scammers are pretending to be SAPS officers to trick people into paying fake fines. Learn how to protect yourself.

A scammer may call you pretending to be from SAPS. Their aim is to create panic to control the conversation.

They may tell you there's a warrant for your arrest and that you can pay a fine to make it go away.

How to protect yourself

  • Don't share your PINs or banking info over a call - SAPS will never ask you for money or to sign into your banking app
  • Hang up immediately and contact SAPS on their official number to verify the call
  • Always be alert for impersonators pretending to be from official organisations

If you’re unsure, visit the official SAPS website or call your nearest police station to verify any claim.
