To Exercise your POPIA rights, read the instructions below and complete the online form.

Capitec is committed to protecting the Personal Information of our Data Subjects – this includes our clients, employees, merchants, and related stakeholders. We support the right of our Data Subjects to access and amend their Personal Information as per the Protection of Personal Information Act.

The purpose of this webform is to enable you to exercise your POPIA rights by gaining access to your Personal Information that Capitec collected, processed and stored. You can also request for the correction of your information, request that we delete the information we have of you, object to or restrict the use of your Personal Information or lodge a complaint directly to us or to the Information Regulator where you feel that your POPIA rights were not respected. You can complete the forms manually here and submit them from there.

Before processing your request, we will first verify your identity, which will be in line with the period stated in the relevant legislation. If we are unable to respond in a timely manner, we will communicated this with you as well as the reason. Privacy at Capitec

You have a right to request the deletion of your information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or obtained unlawfully. You can also request for deletion of your information that we are no longer lawfully authorised to retain. The right of deletion is not absolute and can only occur on the above listed grounds. As a Capitec client, this means that when you request deletion of any personal information it may impact our ability to provide you with a service or product.

A request to delete or destroy your personal information may result in services and products you have at Capitec being discontinued.

Also, we cannot delete your information and close your accounts if your debt to us is not settled or if the retention period ā€“ as per law ā€“ is still in effect.

Even after your account is closed, we need to retain your information for a set amount of time ā€“ as per law and our retention policies ā€“ and only after that time period has lapsed will your information be deleted.

However, we will retain information that is lawful and within the retention period.

The request for the correction or deletion of personal information, or destruction or deletion of personal records of personal information is provided for in section 24(1) of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (act no.4 of 2013).
