On 9 October 2018, Learning Facilitation Manager Craig Williams, Team leader Lesego Dwamena and their team visited the Solomon Qatyana Primary School in Strand. They donated new school shoes, backpacks and lucky packets to Grade R pupils at the school.
The team aimed to raise R6 000 towards the initiative prior to the visit, contributing a minimum of R100 each. Capitec’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) department then matched the raised amount, helping the Facilitation team successfully reach their target.
“What we didn’t expect, was the way we were received by the children. We were greeted with singing and such a lot of energy from them,” said Lesego. After handing over the shoes, backpacks and lucky packets, Craig expressed his team’s appreciation for the warm reception.
“As much as we are giving, we are also receiving something really special. As a team, we sometimes lose fuel, but an experience like this fuels us to do what we do a lot better. Thank you to the teachers for the work you do, I don’t think there’s enough money in the world to repay you for your contribution,” Craig added.
In response, the Principal of Solomon Qatyana, Xolani Gontshi, thanked Capitec on behalf of the children. “We put the children at the centre of everything we do. They are our priority and with people like you, they are standing on the shoulders of giants. Thank you for giving them strength and thinking about our school.”
The Capitec Learning Facilitation team would like to encourage other departments to also give back to the community by joining their #LearnToServe campaign.
