Capitec is SA’s largest digital bank, with more than 15 million active clients, of which over 8.7 million are digital clients.
“Our approach is always client first and that’s how we approached the app update,” says Roderick May, Client Experience Manager at Capitec. “We analysed what our clients were doing on our digital channels, and we also listened to what they were saying on social media and invited some to test several prototypes at our branches. It was clear that our clients wanted simplicity – so we had to create a new app that would simplify banking for our clients.”
The new Capitec banking app is like having a bank in your pocket. We’ve launched a range of new features that are guaranteed to simplify banking. Anything you previously had to go into a branch for, you can do on your phone wherever you are.
Here are the most important new features on the Capitec banking app that will help you simplify your banking.
Now you can decide what you’d like to see on your home screen. With the updated app, we’ve given you the option to hide your balance on your home screen as an additional safety measure. Don’t worry, you can still open the app and transact, but your balance will not be visible.
You can set up shortcuts on your home and sign-in screens to give you one-tap access to the features you use most. Helping you save time.
The ‘Track your spend’ feature provides a clear visual representation of how you’re spending your money. It will help you to identify your spending habits based on categories, such as food, transport and entertainment, so that you can see at a glance exactly where your money goes every month.
There’s no need to remember yet another password! With the new app you can sign in and authorise transactions using your fingerprint. Plus, every transaction is protected by your Remote PIN, which is a secret number you choose when you activate Remote Banking for the first time. Remember to keep this number a secret and never share it with anyone. In addition, if you forget to sign out of the app, your session will expire automatically after 5 minutes.
Gone are the days of having to carry bank cards everywhere you go. Now, you can use the app to create a virtual card to use for all app, online and scan-to-pay transactions.
Capitec is the only bank in South Africa to offer its clients scan-to-pay that is compatible with all major QR payment providers. When it comes to contactless card transactions, you can use the app to turn your card’s tap-to-pay function on and off, which means you’re always in control.
This feature allows you to send money to anyone with a cellphone number. The way it works is simple: all you have to do is create a voucher with a reference number that you send directly to someone’s cellphone. When they receive the voucher, they can either withdraw the money at a Capitec ATM or at a tillpoint in a supermarket, including Shoprite, Checkers and Makro.
Although you’ll need data to download the app, once you have it on your phone, there’s no monthly subscription fee to use it. MTN, Vodacom and Cell C subscribers also pay zero data charges when using the Capitec app to transact.
