Making sure her kids know she loves them and is proud of them, is a priority for mom, entrepreneur and influencer Aisha Baker. “But it’s also important that I feel that way about myself. I need to be a role model to them and, to do that, I need to show them that I am someone who goes for their personal goals and commits to them,” she says.
Wellness is another priority in Aisha’s life. “I know that if I’m healthy, I’m wealthy. How I achieve this is through having a holistic approach to my wellness, which includes mental health, physical health and financial health. When I spend time working on staying healthy, I know that I’m able to live better. ”
We’ve partnered with Dis-Chem to help everyone live better, and Aisha has put together 2 parenting kits: one on a budget and one as a splurge. “Becoming a parent is an incredible experience, but it’s also expensive,” says Aisha.
“There are many new expenses and you always seem to run out of nappies! I love that I can now earn 1% cash back on so many of the baby essentials I buy from Dis-Chem using my Capitec card.”
“It was quite a challenge to put together an ultimate parenting kit on a budget of R500,” Aisha admits. “So I went back to basics and asked myself: what are the absolute necessities for a new mom and baby? I focused on including products that are both affordable and practical.”
Ultimate save kit:
At the top of her list are a few essentials for mom. “We get so caught up with the baby that we forget about ourselves,” she says. “The Nuby manual breast pump is a good budget buy if you’re breastfeeding, as well as Softi’s breast and maternity pads.”
Aisha adds that bum cream, baby powder, nappies and nappy bags are absolute necessities.
“I know it’s tempting to splurge on baby clothes, especially those cute dressy outfits for the first 3 years of your baby’s life,” she says. “But, as adorable as they are, I find these usually go to waste because our babies grow so fast!”
Ultimate splurge kit:
Instead, Aisha says if you have a slightly bigger budget to work with, rather splurge that R1 000 on Baby Things bibs, washcloths, pacifiers and blankets. “I just love the range and you’re spoilt for choice. Plus the products are practical and offer great value for money.”
