Promotion of Access to Information

PAIA’s most important theme is Access to Information. You must know how to make use of PAIA in your personal capacity should you wish to request access to your personal information.

According to PAIA, companies need to give access to information if it is requested, taking into consideration who is requesting the information, what information is requested, and whether access to that information is allowed.

The Requester (person requesting the personal information) needs to request access to their information held by a private or public company, through the company’s PAIA Manual.

So how does PAIA work at Capitec?

  • All Requesters need to consult our PAIA manual, available within our Privacy centre https://www.capitecbank.co.za/privacy-centre/, and complete the relevant form (Form 02), available from the Information Regulator’s website https://inforegulator.org.za/paia-forms/
  • Our Information Officer (IO) receives all PAIA requests through the Information Officer mailbox. The Privacy team analyses the request and determines if the information may be shared with the Requester or not
  • Should the request be declined, a formal response, signed by the Deputy Information Officer, is emailed to the Requester
  • If the request is approved, the Requester will receive a formal email, also signed by the Deputy Information Officer, containing the requested information
  • Should the information requested be publicly available, a formal request is not required
