Capitec has been recognised as one of the world’s strongest banking brands in the 2026 Brand Finance Global Banking 500 Report, ranking seventh globally for brand strength and second among the strongest bank brands in Africa. This recognition highlights our continued focus on building trust with our clients while offering simple, accessible and innovative banking.

The annual report by Brand Finance ranks the world’s most valuable and strongest banking brands. It looks at factors like brand investment, client perception and business performance. This year’s results also highlight the strength of South Africa’s banking sector, with nine local banks appearing in the global top 500.

Trust is at the heart of strong banking brands

Banking is built on trust. As basic banking services become more similar across institutions, clients increasingly value reliability, transparency and consistent service.

For Capitec, trust has always been central to how we do business. This recognition reflects what matters most to us: simple, fair and accessible banking. By truly understanding our clients, we continue to build trust and grow with the people who bank on us.

A growing focus on client needs

The report also shows a clear shift across the global banking industry toward more client-focused innovation. Many financial institutions are placing greater emphasis on improving everyday banking experiences, rather than focusing only on size or scale.

African banks are helping to lead this shift. The report highlights that a strong banking brand today is not just about the size of a bank, but about the trust it earns and the value it brings to clients’ lives.

Combining digital banking with personal support

As banking continues to evolve, clients expect digital services that are simple, reliable and easy to use. At the same time, many still value personal support and guidance when they need it.

Banks that successfully combine strong digital platforms with meaningful client support are building stronger brands and standing out in a competitive global market.

Africa’s banking brands gain global recognition

While global banking rankings are often dominated by institutions in the United States and China, African banks continue to stand out when it comes to brand strength. The report shows that four African banks rank among the global top 10 for brand strength, all receiving the highest AAA+ rating.

For Capitec, this recognition reinforces our commitment to providing simple, transparent and accessible banking, while continuing to build one of Africa’s strongest financial brands.
