How to send cash using our app

  1. Tap Transact
  2. Tap the button to send cash
  3. Choose 'From' account
  4. Enter the amount you want to send
  5. Create a 4-digit secret code (this will be used to collect the cash)
  6. Tap Send
  7. Read the terms and conditions, tick the boxes and tap Accept
  8. Tap Yes to confirm the transaction
  9. Tap the Share Reference Number button on the successful screen of the Send cash transaction to share the reference number using your favourite messaging platforms (e.g WhatsApp)
  10. Send the secret code to the recipient in a separate message

How to send cash using internet banking

  1. Sign in on internet banking
  2. Go to the payments menu
  3. Select Send Cash
  4. Click Continue to send cash
  5. Select ‘From’ account
  6. Enter the amount to be sent
  7. Create the 4-digit secret code
  8. Click Send the Cash
  9. Open the Capitec app and approve the authorisation message

How to view your send cash history using internet banking

  1. Sign in on internet banking
  2. Go to the payments menu
  3. Select Send Cash
  4. Click View my Send Cash history

How to update the secret code for unredeemed vouchers

  1. Sign in on Internet banking
  2. Go to the payments menu
  3. Select Send Cash
  4. Click View my Send Cash history
  5. Select the unredeemed voucher
  6. Click Update secret code
  7. Enter a new 4-digit secret code
  8. Click Continue to Update secret code
  9. Open the Capitec Bank app and approve the authorisation message

How to send cash using USSD

  1. Dial *120*3279# and reply then reply 3
  2. Accept the terms and conditions
  3. Reply 1
  4. Choose 'From' account
  5. Enter the amount you want to send
  6. Create a 4-digit secret code (this will be used to collect the cash)
  7. Enter your Mobile Banking PIN

The reference number

  • The reference number for the cash sent can be shared on messaging platforms on your phone ie. WhatsApp
  • Send the recipient the reference number using our share capability to collect the cash
  • Remember to send the secret code to the recipient as well.
  • Important note: You can share the reference number via SMS as well but this will be covered at your own cost.

How much does it cost?

  • Send R40 - R1 000: R10 per transaction
  • Send R1 010 - R2 000: R20 per transaction
  • Send R2 010 - R3 000: R30 per transaction
  • Collecting the cash is free at Ackermans, PEP, PEP HOME, PEP CELL, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, Usave, Shoprite or Capitec ATM

  • The daily limit is R1 000 and you can send up to R24 990 cash per month
App and Internet banking
  • You can send up to R3 000 per transaction
  • The daily limit is R5 000 and you can send up to R24 990 cash per month
What you need to collect your cash
  • The reference number (this is sent by SMS to the sender)
  • The 4-digit secret code
How to collect your cash
  1. Visit any Ackermans, PEP, PEP HOME, PEP CELL, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, Usave, Shoprite or Capitec ATM near you
  2. When collecting in one of the partner stores, tell the teller that you have a cash transfer from a Capitec client
  3. The teller will then ask for the reference number
  4. You’ll be asked for the secret code (some retailers may ask you to confirm your name, surname, and cellphone number)
  5. Once validated, the cash will be paid to you instantly

What if you can't get your cash?

If, for any reason the cash payout cannot be completed, contact our Client Care Centre on 0860 10 20 43.

FAQs

A Send Cash is available immediately. Once you confirm the transaction on your app, USSD or online banking, the person you send it to can withdraw the cash at our ATMs or at participating retailers using the reference number and secret PIN.

We charge a fee based on how much you send.

  • R40 – R1 000: R10 per transaction
  • R1 010 – R2 000: R20 per transaction
  • R2 010 – R3 000: R30 per transaction

Your Send Cash limits depend on whether you use our app or USSD.

USSD:

  • Per transaction: R1 000
  • Daily limit: R1 000
  • Monthly limit: R24 990

App and online banking:

  • Per transaction: R3 000
  • Daily limit: R5 000
  • Monthly limit: R24 990

Most Send Cash transactions go through immediately. If your Send Cash failed or did not arrive, it’s usually because:

  • The phone number or withdrawal PIN was entered incorrectly
  • Your network or app connection dropped during the transaction
  • You’ve reached your daily or monthly Send Cash limit

Start by checking your transaction history on your app to see if the money was sent successfully.

If the money has left your account but the person you sent it to hasn’t received the SMS, you can share the reference number and PIN again.

A Send Cash is valid for 30 days. If the money is not withdrawn within 30 days, we automatically pay it back into the account you used to send it.
